Billy Edwards Jr. made his first major mistake when he threw to the right sideline, directly into the hand of Justin Walley who took it to the endzone and put Minnesota up 21-0 in the first quarter. This was just the beginning of a blowout loss and Maryland’s worst all-around performance of the season.

Meanwhile, Max Brosmer had a career day and picked apart the depleted Maryland defense. The New Hampshire transfer ended his day with a season-high 320 passing yards with four touchdowns, completing 79% of his passes.

Maryland football (4-4, 1-4 Big Ten) fell to Minnesota 48-23 in Minneapolis on Saturday. The Gophers grabbed their third straight win while the Terps failed to build on the momentum from last week’s win.

The Terps had a nightmare start to the game on both sides of the ball. The defense allowed touchdowns on the first two Minnesota (5-3, 3-2) drives while Edwards threw two interceptions in the first quarter.

With Maryland down 24-0 to open the second quarter, the Terps could not find the same magic from last week’s comeback win over USC.

Edwards finished with 201 passing yards, two interceptions and one rushing touchdown. His top target Tai Felton caught nine passes for 104 yards.

The rushing touchdown came on a three-yard run in the final minute of the first half. However, Maryland took another injury hit when Andre Roye was carted off after the play after another lineman fell on his leg.

The Gophers continued to build on their lead with another passing touchdown and two field goals before halftime.

Maryland once again struggled on third down, converting just five of its 13 chances (38%).

Minnesota receivers Daniel Jackson and Elijah Spencer each caught two touchdowns and combined for over 200 yards. Jackson caught nine passes for 117 yards while Spencer hauled in six for 99.

MJ Morris took over for Edwards in the fourth quarter and found the endzone on his first drive. Morris was a lone bright spot, finishing a near-perfect 7-for-8 with 122 yards and two touchdowns in the quarter.

The Terps have a chance to regroup with a bye next week but then face their toughest challenge yet against No. 1 Oregon (7-0, 4-0) on November 9th.
