No. 8 Maryland women’s lacrosse (4-1) secured its fourth consecutive win, defeating No. 13 James Madison 11-5 in its first road game of the season on Saturday.

The Terps dominated, holding the lead over the Dukes (4-2) for all four quarters while maintaining possession and a strong defense throughout the game.

In the first quarter, Maryland controlled possession with a total of five draw controls, while James Madison had only one.

Senior Jordyn Lipkin fired off the first shot from graduate student Kate Sites, and the Terps added four more goals by the end of the period, with Kori Edmondson scoring the last one, her second of the first quarter.

The Dukes led in turnovers, something the Terps took advantage of to build a five-point lead heading into the second period.

Maryland continued to maintain possession in the second quarter, but both teams picked up the pace as James Madison started to put points on the board.

James Madison got on the board with its first goal, but Maryland quickly responded. Freshman Shelby Sullivan scored, and after a JMU foul, Sites added another on a free position to extend the Terps’ lead.

The Dukes scored four goals before halftime, while the Terps added four as well, including two on free-position shots. Maryland maintained control with a 9-4 lead going into halftime.

The game slowed as defense on both sides intensified and became more physical, with the Terps holding the Dukes scoreless in the third quarter.

Maryland scored the only goal of the period, with Sullivan finding the net.

Maryland held a 10-4 lead entering the fourth quarter, with its defense limiting the Dukes to one goal. James Madison scored the final goal of the game, and Sites added the last goal for the Terps.

The Terps will look to extend their win streak as they head into their second away game of the season against Penn State.
