No. 9 Maryland women’s (10-4, 5-1 Big Ten) lacrosse shut down Ohio State 8-5 on Senior Day in College Park. The Terps just returned from the West, winning against both Arizona State and USC.
Although the win streak was short-lived after a recent loss to No. 11 Virginia on Wednesday, falling 13-9 at Notre Dame Prep. Maryland’s defense struggled to hold the Cavaliers, who maintained a three to four-goal lead throughout the game, except for the first quarter.
But the Terps bounced back against Ohio State (8-6, 1-6) on both ends of the field.
Maryland controlled most of the game. The Terps scored the first two goals and allowed only one for the Buckeyes, which came with just 53 seconds left in the first quarter.
The Terps led in shot attempts with about five minutes left in the period, holding at least a 4-0 advantage in attempts. That trend continued throughout the remainder of the game, with the Buckeyes finishing with a 13-shot deficit.
Ohio State got back in the game early in the second quarter, tying it up, but couldn’t hold Maryland for long. The Terps added three goals, one of which came from senior Kate Sites.
Going into the second half, the Terps were ahead by just two goals but maintained their momentum through the end, ultimately securing the victory, a key contrast to their recent loss to Virginia.
