It was a competition to forget last Saturday in State College for Maryland gymnastics (3-7, 2-7 Big Ten), who came in last in the annual Big Five Meet. The Terps finished with a score of 195.100, over a full point behind the next closest team (Iowa, 196.225). The last place finish gave them four conference losses for their campaign.

Maryland will have two chances to bounce back this weekend with the Maryland Quad meet Friday night. The Terps will welcome Central Michigan, George Washington and William & Mary to College Park for the first home multi-squad meet of 2024.

The Central Michigan Chippewas come into Friday’s meet with a 7-5 record overall and a 3-2 conference record in the Mid-American Conference. Their latest outing was a 196.025-195.425 defeat to Kent State. Despite the loss, sophomore Luciana Alvarado-Reid was named the MAC Gymnast of the Week for earning an all-around score of 39.525, the 5th highest score in program history. Alvarado-Reid’s final score included a career-best score of 9.950 on bars and an impressive 9.900 showing on floor. The Chippewas are dangerously close to being ranked on the vault, as they currently hold the 26th best rotation in the country.

The George Washington Revolutionaries enter Friday’s action with a 14-7 record — they have already beaten William & Mary twice. Their last meet was a 197.425-196.250 loss to No. 25 Ball State. The Revolutionaries were led by seniors Anneliese Silverman and Kendall Whitman, who both set new career-high scores on the all-around (39.325 and 39.300, respectively). The two also both finished with a 9.900 on floor, while freshman Brooke Izzo placed first on beam with a new career high of 9.900. They boast the 23rd ranked vault rotation in the country and are very close to a national ranking on floor, as they currently sit at 28th.

The William & Mary Tribe come to College Park with a 1-11 record and a 1-4 record in the Gymnastics East Conference (GEC). Their sole victory came against the University of Bridgeport in the UPenn Quad Meet, the Tribe’s best overall finish this year. They lost to West Chester last week, 194.125-192.275, despite claiming three of the event titles. A few gymnasts set career-highs, while the team as a whole posted the season-best and 7th best score in program history on vault with a 48.725.

The meet will take place at 7 p.m. from Xfinity Center.
