No. 4 Maryland women’s lacrosse had its first Big Ten loss to No. 3 Northwestern, 16-4, snapping its six-game win streak.

Northwestern came in hot in the first quarter, making it difficult for Maryland to catch up, scoring eight goals in the opening period. Maryland’s only goal in the first quarter came from junior Kori Edmondson.

This trend continued throughout the game, as Northwestern dominated in goals each quarter. Maryland was only able to score one goal per quarter for all four periods.

Sophomore Maisy Clevenger, freshman Devin Livingston and senior Jordyn Lipkin each added a goal for the Terps.

Maryland found itself in turnover trouble, giving the Wildcats many opportunities for possession, which they took full advantage of. However, the Terps dominated in saves, with sophomore JJ Suriano recording 10.

The Terps are gonna be looking to gain their momentum back today against Oregon on home turf.

The Ducks and the Terps are gonna be going head-to-head for the first time.

Oregon has lost a total of five games, three of those losses coming against Big Ten teams: Ohio State, Rutgers and Penn State.

They have yet to win against any Big Ten team this season.

In previous wins, Oregon has dominated possessions through draw controls and capitalized on this by getting more opportunities to get shots off on goal.

The games that the Ducks have won have shown a drastic difference in score, with the Ducks winning by at least an 11-point margin.

The game starts at 5 p.m. today in College Park.
