Preview: No. 9 Maryland women’s lacrosse hosts Denver for fourth straight home game

No. 9 Maryland women’s lacrosse (2-1) faces Denver (3-2) on Saturday to finish the final game of its home-stand before heading to James Madison next week.

The Terps started their season strong. Although they took a loss in their season opener against Syracuse, 15-9, they bounced back with back-to-back wins against Georgetown, 9-7, and Saint Joseph’s, 18-7. Now, as they go up against Denver, looking to extend their win streak to three games.

A few key players for Maryland so far this season have been graduate student Chrissy Thomas, who has 10 points (one goal and nine assists), and junior Kori Edmondson, who has helped lead the Terps with a total of eight goals.

The Terps are currently ranked 17th nationally in defense, allowing an average of 7.33 goals per game.

As for the Pioneers, they got off to a slow start, losing their first two games, but have since won three in a row. This will mark the seventh meeting between Maryland and Denver, with Maryland winning five of the previous six matchups and Denver earning its lone victory in 2023.

In their three wins, the Pioneers have averaged 19.3 goals per game with a .453 shooting percentage. Their standout player, senior Raegan Wilson, leads the team with 21 points (seven goals and 14 assists), followed by senior Lauren Black, who leads in goals with 15.

The game will start at noon at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex in College Park.
