Diamond Miller declares for 2023 WNBA Draft

Maryland women’s basketball senior guard Diamond Miller will enter the 2023 WNBA Draft, the WNBA announced on Thursday, ending her career as a Terp. Widely considered one of the top projected picks in the upcoming draft, Miller was a first-team All Big Ten Team selection.

Miller averaged a career-best 19.7 points per game last season, and finished with 1706 points in her four-year career in College Park. Miller also finished her senior campaign with career highs in rebounds (219; 6.4 per game), assists (99) and steals (71).

The 6-foot-3 Miller is projected to be the No. 2 overall pick in the latest ESPN mock draft, which would make her the highest Maryland selection since Marissa Coleman went second overall to the Washington Mystics in 2009.

After Miller said she had “decisions to make” following Maryland’s loss to South Carolina in the Elite Eight, questions were raised if she would return. But the senior decided to forfeit her final season of eligibility and enter the next stage of her basketball career.

While Miller moved on from the Terps, seniors Brinae Alexander, Faith Masonius and Lavender Briggs are all coming back for the 2023-24 campaign.

Miller racked up countless awards and honors as a Terp, most notably a 2023 AP second team All-American and a two-time All-Big Ten first team honoree. She also helped lead Maryland to its first Elite Eight appearance since the 2014-15 season.

Miller exits as one of the “most talented players” coach Brenda Frese has said she’s been around.
