Maryland gymnastics (19-6, 3-6 BIG) concluded its season Friday evening with a third-place finish at the NCAA Regionals in Lexington, Kentucky. The Terps posted a 195.775 overall score, finishing behind Arkansas (10-13-1, 2-5-1 SEC) and Missouri (17-12, 4-4 SEC), who both advanced to the regional final.

Maryland struggled to earn high scores, with no gymnast generating a score higher than a 9.875 on any of the four events. Senior Maddie Komoroski led the team with a 9.875 on the balance beam, while senior Taylor Rech earned a 9.850 on the floor exercise.

Despite not earning standout scores, the Terps managed to score above 49.000 in two events – vault and floor exercise. Maryland remained within scoring proximity behind these performances, but was unable to build enough momentum to qualify for the regional final.

Arkansas finished in first with 197.175, while Missouri followed with 196.875. Both teams advanced to the Lexington Regional Final, where they competed against the Oklahoma Sooners and the Ohio State Buckeyes for a chance at the NCAA Championships.

Maryland’s 2026 campaign was highlighted by program records and individual accolades. The Terps recorded a program-high score of 49.575 on floor exercise against Penn State in January, surpassing a 2004 program by five-hundredths of a point behind 9.975s from both Aine Reade and Komoroski.

Komoroski – an AAI Award Nominee – tied a program record of 9.950 on the balance beam against Rutgers in early February.

Head coach Brett Nelligan was able to reach 300 career wins in his 17th year at the helm. Maryland’s 19 wins this season was the most under Nelligan’s tenure since the 2018 season.

Roster depth played a significant part in the Terps’s success – Maryland brought in five transfers and six freshmen, laying a strong foundation for seasons to come. The versatility of the roster allowed the Terps to demonstrate strength across all events while building skills throughout the season with clean routines and detailed exhibitions.
