The Left Bench officially becomes Terrapin Sports Central

On Thursday morning, The Left Bench officially changed its name to Terrapin Sports Central. Current and former producers made the decision to search for a brand that better reflected our content and coverage of Maryland athletics, thus we landed on TSC.

The Left Bench was founded nine years ago as a place for students to blog and talk about pro sports. That is far from what we do in 2022, and now our name is an expression of our work.

We want to thank all of our alumni, including our founders: Michael Stern, Justin Meyer, and Kofie Yeboah. They set a standard for the future of the publication. Because of their hard work, the standard became much bigger than our name, which compelled today’s move.

We’d also like to thank the Philip Merrill College of Journalism and its administrators for their continued support of our organization. Since day one, Merrill College has provided us with resources, including studio time and equipment, to help fulfill our mission. Today wouldn’t be possible without their help.

Terrapin Sports Central will operate the same way as The Left Bench. We will continue to provide both written and video coverage of every Maryland sport, and our studio shows will still be a summation of our video content.

Speaking of shows, that is where the legacy of The Left Bench will live on. Our flagship show will still be titled “The Left Bench”, and our secondary show will be titled “The Left Bench: In Focus”.

The Left Bench was always a great name for a sports show, and we’re excited to maintain that brand in one area of our publication.

In addition to the name change, we have established social media director, podcast producer, and graphics producer positions on our executive team. These staff members will help build the brand that we envision for the organization.

It’s time for something new. It’s time for something fresh. It’s time for Terrapin Sports Central.
