The game was tied as with 23 seconds left on the clock as point guard Melo Trimble nonchalantly brought the ball up the court.

With the clock approaching zero, and Wisconsin guard Zak Showalter in his face, Trimble took his final shot of the game. The ball skipped off the inside edge of and fell through the nylon to seal the Terps’ victory.

Throughout the week, there was uncertainty surrounding Trimble’s health, but on Saturday against the Badgers, the No. 3 Terps eked out a victory to the tune of a team-leading 21 points and 5 assists, and a buzzer beater, from Trimble.

With four minutes and 44 seconds left in regulation, Trimble found center Diamond Stone in the paint. The freshman Wisconsin native slammed the ball through the hoop to give the Terps a 58-50 lead, their largest of the game.

Over the next four minutes and 42 seconds, the Terps missed all four of their field goals and two of four free throws. To culminate Wisconsin’s 10-2 run, guard Bronson Koenig converted a three to tie the game.

Trimble would put the Badgers’ hopes to bed and help the Terps improve their record to 15-1 (4-0 Big Ten), the best start in program history.

In the team’s last game, an 88-63 win over Rutgers, Trimble exited in the first half due to what the team called a “tight hamstring.” After the game, Turgeon said that Trimble would be “fine.”

Like the team anticipated, Trimble was ready to go on Saturday. And he didn’t disappoint.

Among other Terps contributing, forward Robert Carter Jr. finished the game with a double double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Stone scored 11 points and added on four rebounds off the bench.

The Terps will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. Tuesday night to take on Michigan at 9:00 p.m.
